Mandisa is one of the 6 minute short documentaries to come out of the GlobalGirl Media project. But, Mandisa is not only just a title. It is the name of the young woman whose story we learn about through the film, and hers is a story that which is painfully familiar in SA.
Mandisa was raped at a young age by a neighbour and is now HIV positive. She invites us into her life where we hear personal anecdotes about the effects of this violence from her neighbour, mother and grandmother. Most importantly, we hear from Mandisa herself.
The story is interesting, moving and really well filmed.
It’s screened with the Sonke Gender Justice Film – Can’t Fold Your Arms at the 14th annual Encounters Film Festival at the following places and times:
CT: Fugard Sun 10 5.45 | NuM Wed 13 6.30
Jozi: NuM Mon 18 6.30 | NuM Fri 22 6.45
